Grand Final Winners : The Return of the Kings

League Champions : The Return of the Kings

After a tense semi final with Australian representatives Norfolk n Chance last week, The Return of the Kings returned this week to face up against 2nd placed Associacao Atletica Ponte Preta who defeated Matt Crowell’s Retirement FC in a not so thrilling encounter last week. Upon losing the game, Matt announced he would be refereeing the final to ensure a fair game and restore the boys faith in him as a top official.

The Final was anticipated to be a tight game with both teams having a decent chance of taking the coveted title. There was also another prize on offer to the victors for the game. A spot in the F5WC Nationals for the chance to represent Australia in next years World Cup.

The game started out fast, but Return of the Kings struggled with the fast tempo thanks in part to Ian McAndrew who was back after suspension following his tiff with Matt Crowell. The game was end to end stuff with goals flying in both ways. Steven Grimmett (aka Ham) was the custodian in charge of Ponte Preta’s goal but was no match for the Gosford boys threat upon his goal.

In the end, there was only to be one winner and last years champs proved to have enough in the tank to make it 2 years in a row, winning 6-5.

Congrats to The Return of the Kings. Clearly better than Retirement FC.
